Hidden deep within Roblox’s The Forge, Critical Mining turns routine resource farming into a high-stakes test of timing, precision, and strategy. Learn how players extract rare materials, boost yields, and master the system that separates casual miners from true resource experts.
What Is The Forge Critical Mining?
The Forge Critical Mining is a special mechanic that lets you deal bonus damage to rocks and crystals by striking a small white weak point that appears on their surface during mining. Hitting this glowing spot with your pickaxe turns a normal swing into a heavy critical hit, greatly increasing the damage and letting you break ore nodes much faster than with standard hits. Because the extra damage scales with your pickaxe and mining boosts, mastering Critical Mining becomes a key part of speeding up resource farming and progressing through tougher islands.
Critical Mining in The Forge is a mining mechanism that deals extra mining damage. This happens when you hit the exact Critical Mining Hit Point on the rock or crystal you’re mining.
When you start mining rocks with your pickaxe, you’ll notice a white glowing spot or Critical Mining Hit Point on them, as given in the above image. When you hit that exact white glowing spot with your Pickaxe, the rocks will take an extra 1500-2000 damage. This is 2x more than the base damage of the Dragon Head Pickaxe.
The damage of Critical Mining depends on the damage of your Pickaxe. Therefore, ensure you use the best pickaxes available in the game. The Critical Mining Hit Point also changes each time you smash the rock with your pickaxe. However, it only appears once you’ve started mining.
Critical Mining makes farming ores in The Forge a lot easier, faster, and a fun experience for players. Using this mechanism with some tricks, you can easily get plenty of ores, much quicker compared to the Afk Spots.
Tips and Tricks to Maximize The Forge Critical Mining
Keep your mining streak high by upgrading your pickaxe regularly and targeting higher rarity ores for bonus rewards. Join public servers to benefit from shared mining buffs and timed events that boost yield rates. Use energy boosters wisely-save them for double-reward periods or special ore spawns. Keep an eye on forge timers so you can refine materials without downtime, and balance your mining routes between fast-respawn areas and zones with rare resources.
Now that you know about the details of Critical Mining, it’s time to share some tips and tricks that you can use to mine like a pro. Here’s a list of them:
- As discussed, the Critical Mining damage depends on the damage of your pickaxe. Consider using the Dragon Head Pickaxe or the Heavenly Pickaxe, as they are the ones with the highest base damage.
- Use various potions when mining, like the Miner Potion I, Fungi Potion, or the Christmas Potion for an extra damage bonus. Don’t forget to add runes to your best pickaxes (If you are in the mid-game, then we recommend that you don’t attach runes to your pickaxes, as it’s costlier to do so).
- While the Dwarf race can boost the mining power, we aren’t sure if it does the same for Critical Damage. If you have tried this out, then let us know in the comments.
- Equip the Master Miner Skill from the Achievement section to increase your mine power by 5, 10, 15, 20, or 25%.
- The Critical Damage hit points appear randomly on the rocks and crystals, which might make it a bit frustrating, as you have to move around and hit the exact spots. However, I have noticed that you’ll hit the exact Critical Damage spot 70% time when you are standing on top of the rocks. You can do so by jumping on top of them. The Angel and Archangel races are the best ones for this, but you can also check the other races in The Forge and see what suits you.
Best pickaxes for Critical Mining in The Forge
For Critical Mining, you generally want the highest mining power you can get, then adjust for luck depending on whether you’re speed-clearing rocks or farming rares. Here’s a simple breakdown using the commonly recommended top-end pickaxes from recent tier lists and guides.
Absolute best for Critical Mining DPS
-
Demonic Pickaxe – Top choice when you care about raw damage on crits. It has the highest mining power among standard pickaxes, so every critical hit chunks rocks the hardest, making it ideal for fast node clearing and Critical Mining training.
-
Dragon Head / similar top-stat endgame pickaxes – Some guides note Dragon Head as “best by stats alone,” which also makes it excellent for Critical Mining since crit damage scales directly with your base mining power.
Best when you still want luck
-
Lightite Pickaxe – High mining power plus solid luck; very strong if you want both fast Critical Mining and decent rare-ore drops at the same time.
-
Magma Pickaxe – Slightly lower than Lightite/Demonic but still strong power and luck, and cheaper. Very good mid-late game Critical Mining tool before you get true endgame picks.
Best for rare-ore focused crit farming
-
Arcane Pickaxe – Lower mining power than Demonic but extremely high luck (around 100% in some lists), so it shines when you are Critical Mining mainly to increase ores per hour while maximizing rare-drop chances.
Early-midgame stepping stones
-
Cobalt, Uranium, Titanium pickaxes – Use whichever is your next affordable upgrade with higher mining power; these give enough damage that learning to consistently hit crit spots will dramatically speed up your farming even before you reach Magma/Lightite/Demonic.
Quick recommendation
-
Pure Critical Mining speed (breaking rocks as fast as possible): aim for Demonic (or Dragon Head-tier) as your final goal.
-
Balanced crit speed + luck: use Lightite or Magma.
-
Crit while hard-focusing rare ores: swap to Arcane once you can one-cycle most rocks comfortably.
How to unlock Demonic and Arcane Pickaxes in The Forge
You unlock Demonic and Arcane Pickaxes late-game by reaching specific areas, getting keys from quests, and then buying them with a lot of coins.
Demonic Pickaxe unlock
-
Reach Region 2, Forgotten Kingdom, then head into the Ruined Cave and follow the right wall past the big “DANGER” sign until you find the NPC Amber and some Basalt Veins.
-
Break the Basalt Veins to open a path into Volcanic Depths, then keep going northeast using your compass until you reach a large sealed door with a glowing red crystal.
-
In the current version, you properly open this door by getting a Demonite Key: farm Demonite ore, complete the associated NPC quest (handing in 3 Demonite), and receive the key, then interact with the door’s lock to unlock it.
-
Inside the room, you’ll see the Demonic Pickaxe shrine; interact with the pickaxe and buy it for around 500,000 coins to unlock and equip it.
Arcane Pickaxe unlock
-
Arcane is tied to an early-mid game questline often called the “bard quest” / Arcane Pickaxe quest, which you start in World 1 from the bard NPC.
-
Progress the main/bard quests:
-
Complete the story quests up through the Iron Pickaxe quest, then buy the Gold Pickaxe when prompted.
-
Collect 30 Banana-nite and craft items like the Aite Katana, index ores, and explore caves/secret spots as the quests demand.
-
-
Completing the bard line rewards a special key that opens locked gates inside a cave; go back into the cave, follow the path to the barred gate, and use the key on the lock.
-
Past these gates is the shop/altar where you can buy the Arcane Pickaxe for about 125,000 coins, unlocking it permanently.
Practical tips
-
Aim for Arcane first: it’s cheaper, very high luck, and strong enough to let you farm the ores needed for Demonic efficiently.
-
For Demonic, plan ahead for the huge coin cost and make sure you can reliably mine in Volcanic Depths (or bring a friend with a strong pickaxe to help with tough rocks if needed).
