And, finally, the one recipe that most of us crafters were waiting for is here. Now, you can craft a Name Tag using 1 Paper and 1 Metal Nugget. Therefore, no need to venture far for loot chests just to name your pet in the early stages.

How to craft Name Tags in Minecraft 26.1 Snapshot 2

In Minecraft 26.1 Snapshot 2, Name Tags can now be crafted directly in your inventory or a crafting table using just two items: one Paper and one metal Nugget (gold, iron, or copper).

Crafting Recipe

Place the Paper in the bottom-left slot of the 2×2 crafting grid. Position the metal Nugget diagonally in the top-right slot to yield one Name Tag. No crafting table is required, making it accessible early-game without relying on loot chests, fishing, or villager trades.

Materials Needed

  • Paper: Crafted from sugar cane or found in various structures.

  • Metal Nugget: Smelt ores into ingots (gold, iron, or copper), then craft 1 ingot into 9 nuggets; any of the three nugget types works.

Usage Steps

Open your inventory to access the crafting grid. Arrange the items as described, pick up the resulting Name Tag, then rename it at an anvil before right-clicking a mob (like a baby animal) to apply the name and prevent despawning.

What nugget types work for the Name Tag recipe

In Minecraft 26.1 Snapshot 2, the Name Tag crafting recipe accepts any of three metal nugget types: iron nuggets, gold nuggets, or copper nuggets.

Compatible Nuggets

Iron nuggets come from smelting iron ore into ingots then crafting nuggets; gold nuggets follow the same process from gold ore; copper nuggets derive from copper ore, a common early-game resource.

Recipe Confirmation

Any of these nuggets works when placed diagonally opposite a single sheet of paper in the 2×2 crafting grid (paper bottom-left, nugget top-right). Other nugget placements or types like Nether Gold won’t yield the Name Tag.
