Universal Tower Defense Tier List for All Units

The Universal Tower Defense Tier List for All Units ranks every tower and unit based on their strength, versatility, and performance across various maps and game modes. It helps players decide which units to prioritize for upgrades and team compositions. Each tier reflects how well a unit performs in different situations, from early to late game, giving both new and experienced players a clear view of the current meta.

At release, Universal Tower Defense features many characters inspired by top-tier anime legends. But with limited space on your team, you can’t just throw any unit into battle. That’s why it is important to pick characters that fit both the current meta and your playstyle. In our tier list, we have ranked every unit based on how effective they are at clearing enemy waves or making you money.

During our testing, some units clearly outperformed others and made progression much smoother. We’ve grouped them from S to D tier, where S-tier heroes represent the strongest characters in Universal Tower Defense.

Ranking Tier Unit
S-Tier Sung Jin-Woo, Ragna, Dragon Silver, Zaraki (Kenpachi), Kirito (Kyito)
A-Tier Miku, Sakuya, Lelouch (Lulu), Scarlet, Law
B-Tier Sasuke, Ace, Akainu (Admiral Magma)
C-Tier Zora, Genos, Mob Psycho, Ruin Obito, Speedwagon, Rock Lee
D-Tier Isagi, Shanks, Shikamaru, Kakashi, Neji, Zoro, Sanji, Gaara, Greybeard, Nami, Goku, Naruto, Luffy

Best Universal Tower Defense Units

Units in Universal Tower Defense that perform well across different maps and modes stand out for their flexibility and consistency. They often combine strong damage output with supportive abilities, allowing teams to adapt to various enemy types and wave patterns. Reliable examples include towers that can target both air and ground enemies, scale well with upgrades, and contribute to team strategies regardless of composition. These units are valuable choices for players aiming to progress smoothly through harder challenges without relying too much on specific setups.

Below, we have listed all the characters from Universal Tower Defense based on their abilities. We have also mentioned why you should pull a specific Universal Tower Defense character.

S Tier Units

These units are the absolute best in the game, defining the current meta through infinite scaling, massive damage, or unique boss-killing mechanics.

Unit Name Role Explanation
Sun Jin Wu (Sung Jin-Woo) Hybrid Spawns shadow armies, buffs their HP/Damage, and scales infinitely. A “must-have” that dominates all content.
Ragna Hybrid He stuns himself to “awaken,” gaining massive buffs before deleting himself (similar to Escanor). Incredible boss killer.
Dragon Silver Hybrid Freezes enemies and enters a “Silver Battle Trance” for 120% damage. Essential for stalling and killing high-HP waves.
Zaraki (Kenpachi) Hybrid Removes elemental disadvantages from enemies (unique utility) and deals Full AoE damage. Rated above Sasuke for his support utility.
Kirito (Kyito) Ground Gains insane buffs in “Virtual Mode.” A dual-wielder that ramps up crit/damage to become a hyper-carry.

A Tier Units

These units provide invaluable utility (buffs, cooldown reduction, time stops) or high-level control that is essential for clearing difficult content.

Unit Name Role Explanation
Miku Support The only unit that buffs both Damage and Range based on her music track. Essential for maximizing team DPS.
Sakuya Support Obtained in Virtual Mode. She can time-stop, stun, and buff her own damage. Rated as a top-tier support alongside Miku.
Lelouch (Lulu) Support Doesn’t do much damage, but his ability to make enemies walk backward (“Retreat”) or stand still is invaluable for stalling.
Scarlet Support High value for reducing cooldowns of “Royalty” units and providing time-stop stuns.
Law Ground The best non-secret ground unit. His “Room” ability targets the strongest enemies anywhere on the map. Great for picking off leaks.

B Tier Units

Solid units that perform well but lack the game-breaking scaling or unique mechanics found in the S-tier.

Unit Name Role Explanation
Sasuke Hybrid Good damage and Full AoE stun potential. He is strong but falls short of the S-tier “Gods” because he lacks their unique scaling mechanics.
Ace Hill / Air Good burn damage that bypasses shields. The best option for hitting flying units if you don’t have the S-tier Secrets.
Akainu (Admiral Magma) Hybrid Creates magma pools that confuse and damage enemies. Good, but outclassed by units like Zaraki and Ragna.

C Tier Units

Functional units for early game or specific niche uses, but generally replaced by higher-tier units later on.

Unit Name Role Explanation
Zora Ground Excellent for early game or F2P players. Uses traps to stun or damage enemies. The only non-Mythical worth using later on.
Genos Hill / Air Good damage against burning enemies, but his “Fearless Cyborg” passive stuns him for an entire wave, which hurts his consistency.
Mob Psycho Hybrid Only useful for a minor slow effect. His damage is negligible compared to other hybrids.
Ruin Obito Ground A free unit with decent burn and AoE, but intentionally weaker stats than the premium units above.
Speedwagon Support A great unit that deals in currency. Make use of this unit to build momentum and deploy costly characters in the game.
Rock Lee Good early game unit for damage. Only works as air unit.

D Tier Units

These units are generally considered underpowered, inconsistent, or useless in the current meta.

Unit Name Role Explanation
Isagi (Football Eagle) Ground His buff only works if he fails to kill an enemy. Universally considered the “trashiest” high-rarity carry unit in the game.
Shanks Support His stun is okay, but his damage buff requires him to get kills, which is inconsistent since he isn’t a main DPS.
Shikamaru Support Cheap and provides a slow, but falls off immediately after the early game.
Kakashi Ground Decent damage, but works only in air.
Neji Ground Decent damage, but works only in air.
Zoro Ground Decent early unit with limited attacks.
Sanji Ground Decent early unit with limited attacks.
Gaara Ground Good early game unit. Easy on the cost.
Greybeard Ground Weak for its rarity. Avoid pulling.
Nami Ground Decent early game unit.
Goku Ground Starter unit.
Naruto Ground Starter unit.
Luffy Ground Starter unit.

How to Get New Units in Universal Tower Defense

New units in Universal Tower Defense come from the summon building located in the main square. Approach the NPC at the desk and spend gems on available banners, where each single pull costs 50 gems or a ten-pull runs 500 gems. Gems arrive through redeemable codes, gameplay rewards, or purchases, and banners rotate to feature different rarities from Rare to Mythic and Secret. Check current banners for desired units before pulling, as they determine which characters players receive.

Just like any other TD game, UTD characters are available from the summon area. Getting them requires gems, so yes, the Universal Tower Defense codes are important. These codes give a lot of gems for free.

To obtain the best units, you must check the banner and wait for the best units to appear on the index. Once it is there, here is how you can summon units in Universal Tower Defense:

  • Click the Areas button on the left side of the screen.
  • Go to the Summon area to start pulling new units.
  • Click 1x Summon (50 Gems) or 10x Summons (450 Gems) to start pulling units.

Which units rose or fell after the December 2025 rebalance

Information about specific unit balance changes from the December 2025 rebalance in Universal Tower Defense is not accessible right now, so a precise “who rose / who fell” list by patch note is not possible.

However, from the late-December 2025 tier lists and early-January 2026 meta overviews, several trends are clear:

Big winners (rose in tier)

These units are consistently rated much higher in tier lists made after the December rebalance than in older 2025 lists.

  • Sung Jin-Woo – Moved firmly into top meta as one of the highest DPS boss killers, often placed in the very top tier for Story and Infinite.

  • Dragon Silver / Dragon Guy variants – Jumped up due to very strong damage plus CC/utility, becoming a core pick in many recommended end-game teams.

  • Zaraki (Kenpachi) – Rose thanks to excellent AoE and unique buff/utility, now rated among the best hybrid carries.

  • Ragna / Kirito-type hyper carries – Gained value in newer lists as players optimized builds and traits, frequently appearing in S tier.

Stable but still strong

These units stayed high but did not dramatically rise or fall; they remained safe investments across lists around and after the rebalance.

  • Admiral (Magma) – Continues to be a top burn DPS and boss killer, still rated near the top but outshined slightly by newer hyper-carries.

  • Scarlet-type burn DPS – Remains strong and meta-relevant, usually in S or high A, without a clear buff or nerf spike.

  • High-end supports like Lulu/Lelouch and Law – Retain strong utility ratings and remain recommended for hard content.

Units that fell off

A number of older carries and starter units are rated noticeably lower in the most recent lists, making them clear losers of the late-2025 balance/meta shift.

  • Older DPS like Ace, earlier Admiral variants, early Bleach / One Piece / Naruto carries – Slipped into B-C tiers as newer mythics outclass their damage and range.

  • Basic anime starters (Zoro, Sanji, Kakashi, Neji, Gaara, Greybeard, Nami, Goku, Naruto, Luffy, etc.) – Frequently placed in C-D tiers and considered only early-game or collection units.

  • Mid-game units such as Genos, Pebble, some Obito/Ronin variants – Often rated mid or low tier now, with notes that they fall off in late Story/Infinite.

How to read the rebalance impact

Because detailed numeric patch notes are not available here, the clearest way to see who rose or fell is by comparing pre-December and post-December tier placements.

  • If a unit now appears in S/A tier on multiple “Rebalance patch” or January 2026 lists (e.g., Sung, Dragon Silver, Zaraki), treat it as a winner of the rebalance/meta shift.

  • If a unit appears consistently in B-D after previously being considered a main carry (many older DPS and starter units), treat it as having fallen in relative value.

If you share your current box or a screenshot of your main team, a more direct “this rose / this fell for your account” breakdown can be given.

Show the full tier list after December 2025 rebalance

A complete, verified “full tier list” specifically labeled as the Universal Tower Defense December 2025 rebalance is not accessible right now, so a fully accurate master list by exact rank (every unit from S-D) cannot be reproduced.

However, the up-to-date lists made right after that rebalance and carried into early January 2026 all agree on the broad structure of the meta, so this summarized version reflects the post-rebalance state as closely as possible.

Overall tier structure

  • S tier: Absolute meta staples used in end-game Story and Infinite, often mandatory in top clears.

  • A tier: Very strong units that are either just below meta-defining or highly valuable role-players (support/CC/farm).

  • B tier: Playable and fine for progression, but outclassed once you own several S/A tier units.

  • C-D tier: Early-game, fun, or outdated units that fall off badly in hard content.

S tier (post-December 2025)

These are the units that consistently sit at the very top of late-December 2025 and early-January 2026 tier lists.

  • Sung Jin-Woo – Top hyper-carry, insane boss and high-HP wave DPS.

  • Dragon Silver / Dragon Guy (and key evos) – Hybrid burst plus CC, excellent late-game scaling.

  • Zaraki (Kenpachi) – Hybrid with huge AoE and special damage/element utility.

  • Ragna – High scaling ground carry that stays relevant in hardest modes.

  • Kirito / Kyito variants – Strong ground DPS that ramps extremely well with traits.

  • Admiral (Magma, latest evo) – Premier burn DPS and boss shredder.

  • Scarlet / Scarlet Maid – High DPS with strong burn/utility that fits many comps.

  • Top supports like Lulu (Lelouch) and Law are often rated high A to low S depending on list, but are meta-core in difficult stages.

A tier

Strong units that are very safe to build and usually appear in “recommended” teams even if they are not absolute best-in-slot.

  • Miku and Sakuya-type all-rounders – Good DPS plus utility.

  • Jinoo (Monarch), Koyote (Number One), Ichiko (Rage), Migumen (Finale) – Newer mythic carries that sit just below the top hyper-carries.

  • Ice Empress / Frost-type CC DPS – Great control plus damage, especially in Infinite.

  • Berserker (Enraged) – High raw DPS with solid scaling.

  • Good farmers/supports like Fastcart, Namu, etc., when built with correct traits, often land in A for their economic value.

B tier

These units are serviceable and can clear most story content, but fall short in very late waves or are outshined by S/A picks.

  • Older DPS that used to be meta: Ace, earlier Admiral variants, some older Bleach / One Piece / Naruto carries.

  • Footballer (Ego), Shakumira Evo and similar: solid damage or utility but usually rated below the newest mythics.

  • Various mid-rarity legendaries/mythics without standout CC, buffing, or scaling effects.

C-D tier

Frequently listed near the bottom in January 2026 tier lists; generally not worth heavy investment post-rebalance.

  • C tier: Zora, Genos, Mob (100%), Pebble, Ronin/Obito variants, midgame-only DPS that fall off in Infinite/late Story.

  • D tier: Starter/early units such as Isagi/football starters, Shanks, Shikamaru, Kakashi, Neji, Zoro, Sanji, Gaara, Greybeard, Nami, Goku, Naruto, Luffy, other basic early anime units.

How to get a truly “full” list

Because exact up-to-the-unit ranking is scattered across several community tier lists and videos, the most reliable way to see a fully exhaustive list after the December 2025 rebalance is to check:

  • Written tier lists (especially those dated “Rebalance Patch” late Dec 2025 or “January 2026” updates).

  • Community spreadsheets and Discord pins, which often show every unit sorted S-D (these are usually linked under those written guides or video descriptions).

If you paste your current unit list or a screenshot, a personalized table can be made that tags each of your units as S/A/B/C/D under this post-rebalance m
