Power meets precision in The Forge – where each strike upgrades more than metal. This guide breaks down how to refine weapons and armors to their peak form, turning base materials into instruments of mastery.
What Are Weapon and Armor Upgrades in The Forge
Weapon and armor upgrades in The Forge allow players to strengthen their equipment by using gathered resources and crafting materials. Each upgrade increases stats such as damage, defense, or durability, depending on the item type. Weapons can gain new attributes or enhanced power, while armor pieces can improve protection and resistance. Upgrading requires specific materials, currency, and sometimes rare components found through exploration and combat. Choosing which gear to enhance first can significantly influence your combat performance and progress through tougher challenges.
Weapon and Armor upgrades are an in-game mechanic in The Forge. Upgrading lets you increase the base stats of a weapon and armor, like Damage, Attack Speed, Quality, and Attack Range. Upgrades can be done right after you have obtained them by forging. The stat improvement or deduction depends on the craft chance in the game.
How to Upgrade Weapons and Armors in The Forge
Upgrading weapons and armors in The Forge requires gathering specific materials and spending upgrade points earned through gameplay. Visit the blacksmith or upgrade station to access the refinement menu, where each item’s upgrade level determines its required resources and success rate. Higher levels demand rarer materials but grant greater boosts to damage, defense, and special attributes. Players can preview upgrade outcomes before confirming changes, allowing careful management of inventory and crafting materials.
There are two different types of upgrades for weapons and armors in The Forge: Enhancing and Enchanting. Enhancing your weapons and armors increases their level, which further affects the stats. Enhancing, on the other hand, adds bonus passive traits by attaching a rune to your weapon and armor.
Enhance in The Forge
You can enhance a weapon or armor at the Enhancer’s place, available on all the islands. Talking to the NPC will open a menu, from which you can select the weapon and armor you want to enhance. To enhance, you need to have certain types of essence in The Forge.
As you can see in the above image that we have a Tin Uchigatana, which requires two Large, four Medium, and two Small essences. Similarly, you need to check the essences required for your weapon and farm them by killing enemies The Forge. Once you have them, return to the Enhancer’s place and enhance the equipment by spending money and essences.
Enhancing a weapon and armor till level 3 will unlock the option to enchant and attach runes to them in the rune slot. The Rune Slots option shows 2 rune slots after improvement, then you have a chance to get two slots on your weapons or armors.

However, enhancing is based on luck, and if it fails, your enhancement level will be dropped by one. Failing to enhance can also take back the rune slot of that particular level. That is why it is important to check the Craft Chance percentage. If it is medium or above, you will get a positive upgrade.
Enchant in The Forge
As mentioned previously, enhancing a weapon and armor till level 3 will unlock the option to enchant and attach runes to them. And when you want to move on from a particular weapon or armor, you can detach the rune, too.
You can add runes by visiting the Runemaker’s house and interacting with him. Runes are enemy drops, just like essence. However, they are very rare and hard to find as they are specific to certain enemies. If you have a rune, you can attach it to the Rune Slot of your equipment by interacting with the Runemaker and paying the required amount of money.
Should You Upgrade Weapons and Armors in The Forge?
Upgrading weapons and armors in The Forge can greatly enhance your performance and survivability, but it’s best done selectively. Focus upgrades on the gear you use most often or plan to keep for a long time, as materials can be limited and costly. Upgrades not only increase base stats but may also improve special traits or abilities, making fights smoother and faster. However, if you expect to replace your gear soon, it may be smarter to save resources for higher-tier items.
Upgrading The Forge weapon or armor increases its base stats like damage, range, speed, and health, making it a lot better. Moreover, the runes give that extra boost you need to build your own style of weaponry. If you reroll race early and get a solid mining-focused class in The Forge, then you must focus on getting better upgrades right away. When out of spins, you can always use The Forge codes to get them.
While you can upgrade early game weapons and armors in The Forge, the mid and late game ones are better upgrades. That doesn’t mean you won’t upgrade your weapons and armor early on. We recommend forging a few of the good early items and then deciding on the best one you should upgrade, as it costs quite a number of resources and money. Overall, you should definitely upgrade your weapons and armors in The Forge.
Best ways to farm essence for enhancements
Essence Farming Basics
Essences (Small, Medium, Large) drop from defeating enemies in The Forge and are essential for enhancing weapons and armor at the Enhancer NPC. Higher rarity essences suit rarer gear, with drops scaling by enemy strength and zone difficulty. Prioritize combat over AFK methods for faster results, as manual killing yields tons within an hour.
Top Farming Locations
Forgotten Kingdom and Volcanic Depths offer the best Large Essence drops; pull groups of enemies, clear areas fully, then reset zones or loop spawns for 20-30 minutes. Volcanic Depths suits geared players with lifesteal runes for sustain. Early game, stick to starter zones for Small/Medium essences while building gear.
Efficiency Strategies
Equip loot-boosting runes to increase drop rates and survivability; farm during high-activity events if available for doubled efficiency. Balance by selling excess essences for gold instead of hoarding, and only enhance for clear power spikes. Manual farming outperforms AFK, which suits mining more than essence grinding.
Best AFK essence farming spots
Goblin Cave stands out as the top AFK essence farming spot in The Forge due to its dense enemy spawns, tight corridors that funnel mobs, and high drop rates for Small to Large Essences. Unlock it by completing the Goblin King’s quest, then position with a team: one player at the entrance, one near the Basalt Core, and one by the bridge to keep spawns active continuously.
Mid-Game Option
Sunken Cells works well for players without Goblin Cave access; enter from Ruined Caves, head left to the Greataxe Skeletons swarm area for reliable respawns and steady essence gains alongside some ores.
Beginner Spot
Ruined Caves entrance suits new players-go straight from spawn, stop before the left path to Sunken Cells, where Bombers and level 1 enemies spawn frequently for safe, low-risk essence and rune farming.
AFK Tips
Team up with 2+ friends to prevent spawn slowdowns, equip tanky armor with lifesteal runes (Demon, Dragonborn, or Minotaur races boost survival), and focus DPS weapons for faster kills; solo limits efficiency but still works in these spots.
