Beneath the waves, Minecraft’s latest snapshot stirs the oceans with the arrival of the mysterious Nautilus, gleaming Nautilus Armor, and a powerful new spear weapon-giving players fresh reasons to brave the depths once more.
Well, the time has come. The latest Minecraft Snapshot 25W41A is here, and it makes the Nautilus mob, its zombie variant, the Nautilus Armor, and the spear weapon available for testing.
Minecraft Snapshot 25W41A Adds Nautilus as a New Aquatic Mob
The latest Minecraft Snapshot 25W41A introduces the Nautilus, a new aquatic mob that enhances underwater ecosystems with its unique behavior and interactions. These spiral-shelled creatures glide through ocean biomes, often found near coral reefs and ruins. Players can observe their distinct movement patterns and rare item drops, which tie into newly added crafting materials and gear customization features. The update encourages exploration beneath the waves, adding fresh challenges and opportunities for ocean adventurers.
The Nautilus is a neutral aquatic mob found across all the oceanic biomes in Minecraft. This creature is friendly by default, unless you try to mess with it. Once provoked, the Nautilus can use its special Dash attack to deal damage. They’re usually found in groups, and if a pufferfish is nearby, you may also see the Nautilus attacking it.
The Nautilus can be tamed by feeding it pufferfish or a bucket of pufferfish. Similar to taming other creatures in the game, once the hearts appear on top of its head, the mob will be tamed. Moreover, you can breed or ride the Nautilus when they’re tamed. Although riding a Nautilus will require a saddle that you can make with leather and iron ingots.
In addition to the regular Nautilus, you may also find its Zombie variants. However, it will always be ridden by a Drowned, and to make things worse, the Drowned might even carry a trident. The zombie Nautilus will attack you only when it’s ridden by the hostile mob, but otherwise has the same behavior as its normal variant, except that it can’t be bred.
Finally, to strengthen your companion, Mojang also introduces Nautilus Armor, available in copper, gold, iron, diamond, and Netherite variants. With an increase in tier, the defense increases as well. But, do remember that both the normal Nautilus and the zombie variant can equip the armor.

Spear Arrives with an Exclusive Minecraft Enchantment
The new Spear weapon arrives with its own exclusive enchantment, adding a powerful twist to underwater combat and exploration. This enchantment boosts both throwing and melee abilities, allowing players to strike targets with greater force and precision. Combined with the game’s new aquatic content, the Spear offers a fresh way to battle mobs and collect resources beneath the surface.
The spear is the new weapon coming in the Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem update. It can be crafted using two pieces of sticks and any tier material like wood, stone, copper, iron, gold, diamond, or Netherite. Each tier of a spear states how quickly it can attack, how much damage it deals, and how fast its cooldown is. For instance, a Netherite spear has the highest damage-dealing power, but the slowest cooldown of all.
One unique fact about this weapon is that it has both a minimum and a maximum range of attack. This means, if you move too close to an enemy, your attack might not hit them, and it goes the same when you move far away from them (which is an obvious fact).
Now, the spear has two distinct attack styles: the Jab and the Charged attack. The Jab can be performed by pressing the primary action key once, and deals light damage and knockback. Whereas a Charged attack can be performed by holding the secondary action key and charging towards your opponent. The higher your speed during impact, the higher the damage dealt as well.
With the spear, the latest snapshot introduces a unique Lunge enchantment. When your spear is enchanted with Lunge, performing the Jab attack will propel you forward horizontally. It can help in dealing with critical blows or escaping a tricky situation, but the durability of the spear will be compromised.
Zombie Horses Make Their Way to Minecraft Survival Mode
Zombie Horses are no longer limited to creative mode or commands-they can now spawn naturally in survival under special conditions. These undead mounts bring new challenges and opportunities for players, offering unique drops and the possibility of taming them with the right preparation. Their eerie presence adds a darker twist to nighttime exploration, making survival mode encounters more unpredictable than before.
Finally, the Zombie horses are introduced in the Minecraft Survival mode. These will spawn during the night and can burn during the day, like any other undead mob. They are passive towards the players, but if a hostile mob is riding them, you’re very likely to get attacked.
One unique mechanic about the Zombie horses is that you can feed Red mushrooms to heal them. Apart from that, you can tame these creatures in the same way as a regular horse, put a saddle, and ride them as well. Once tamed, the Zombie horses won’t despawn anymore, and when you equip them with horse armor, they won’t take damage from sunlight.
How to tame a Nautilus in Minecraft
To tame a Nautilus in Minecraft, locate one in ocean biomes below Y=38 and feed it pufferfish until hearts appear, indicating success.
Finding Nautilus
Nautilus mobs spawn in groups of 1-3 across all ocean biomes, including warm, cold, frozen, and deep variants, typically between Y levels 58 and 38 underwater. Use Water Breathing potions to search effectively without surfacing often. Baby Nautili can also spawn naturally.
Taming Process
Approach a wild Nautilus and right-click with pufferfish (or a bucket of pufferfish) in hand; multiple feedings may be required, similar to taming wolves or cats. Pufferfish are fished from oceans (avoiding jungle biomes in Bedrock) or obtained from guardian drops. Once tamed, it follows you and accepts saddles for riding.
Post-Taming Benefits
Equip a saddle to ride the Nautilus, granting the “Breath of the Nautilus” effect that pauses oxygen depletion for extended underwater travel. You can also add Nautilus Armor for protection and breed tamed ones using any fish.
Best places to find Nautilus in ocean biomes
Nautilus mobs in Minecraft spawn in all ocean biomes, but certain types offer higher encounter rates for efficient farming.
Highest Spawn Rates
Frozen oceans and cold oceans provide the best odds at 50% spawn weight due to fewer competing mobs, making Nautilus groups of 1-3 more frequent. Deep cold and deep frozen oceans follow closely with similar advantages.
Optimal Depths
Search between Y levels 38 and 58, roughly 20 blocks below the ocean surface (Y=62), where Nautilus appear in open water rather than near the seafloor. Use Water Breathing potions or Conduits to explore these depths without interruption.
Tips for Efficiency
Avoid lukewarm oceans with only 14% spawn weight; prioritize colder biomes near deserts or badlands for adjacent warm variants if seeking Zombie Nautilus. They spawn passively day and night, often in groups including babies.
