To begin The Shoemaker’s Children Go Barefoot quest, travel to Fontaine and head to the designated area near the Court of Fontaine where a small event marker appears on your map. Speak with the NPC named Lucien, who will introduce the situation involving a local shoemaker and his family. After the dialogue, a short cutscene plays, triggering the quest and adding new objectives to your journal. Make sure to have completed previous regional story missions, as some are required to access this quest.

1. Enter and explore the Kuuvahki Experimental Design Bureau
After the first cutscene ends, you will be asked to ‘Enter the Container’ to get inside the building. Once you are inside, continue following the way to reach the next marked location. You will find many enemies along the way, whom you can either defeat or simply run past. Eventually, you will have to drop down into a room from the ventilation and use the elevator nearby to reach the next quest area.
In the new area, you will be asked to look into the chest. Interacting with the chest will reveal a girl hiding in it.
2. Hide in the container nearby
Once you hear the Fatui’s closing in on the room, you will be asked to hide in the nearby container. Just get closer to the container next to the chest you investigated. A ‘Hide’ option will appear on the screen. Select it to hide inside the container.
However, the Fatui will find you anyway, and a battle will begin. Defeat the Fatui to complete this section.
3. Look for a way to exit the room
After defeating the Fatui soldiers, you will have to exit the room. To do that, select the Operate the Cleaning Bot option from the terminal next to the locked door. This will change your PoV to a Cleaning Bot. Control the cleaning bot to get close to the Fatui soldiers behind the locked door.
Once you get closer to them, press the Attack key to grab the door key from them using the power of Kuuvahki. Now, turn to the locked door and use the key on that side of the terminal to open it. Hold the Space key to exit the bot and then defeat the Fatui soldiers in the next room.
4. Look for the owner of the lost item
Next, go up the ladder and continue heading to the next marked location. Once you reach the next area, you will find the girl locked behind a prison cell. Get near the prison to trigger a cutscene. Next, speak with the girl and promise to free her.
5. Find a way to rescue the girl
Look for the Cleaning Bot console nearby and control it like before. Use the bot to get the key card and then carry it into the prison cell. Now, exit the bot and use your character to grab the key card from the other side, and overlap it with the lock connectors to unlock the prison.
After you free the girl, she will reveal her name to be Netochka. Now, defeat the Fatui that appears and continue onward.
6. Continue onward to the dormitory
Follow Netochka and make your way to the dormitory. Along the way, you will have to defeat multiple Fatui soldiers. At one time, you will have to go your separate ways by riding the Aurora line by becoming a Kuuhenki. But in the end, you will eventually reach the dormitory with Netochka.
7. Look for clues in the dormitory
In the dormitory, the traveler will be asked to look for clues. First, check the Strange Blueprint on the table, next check the Beds, and finally investigate the iron container. Eventually, some Fatui soldiers will appear and give another clue for the location of the proof of cogniscenti. Head outside and use the elevator to make your way to the archives.
8. Go to the archives
After you head to the top of the elevator, a group of Fatui soldiers will be waiting for you, led by Melekhov. Defeat them within 20 seconds and continue heading past the doorway to reach the archives. Again, you will be asked to find clues.
In the Archives, you will get an option to Investigate near the table where Netochka will be doing her searches. Now you will be able to see Raskolnikov in the distance, speaking about the Proof of Cognescenti.
9. Find a way to open the gate
Again, use the Cleaning Bot console near the closed door to control the bot. Use the bot to get close to the Fatui soldiers and remove the key card from them. Make sure not to get spotted, else you will lose connection. Once the soldiers turn back, pick the key card from them and open the door like before. Now, exit the bot and defeat the Fatui on the other side of the door.
10. Defeat Cutting Edge Fire Support Ground Effect Landcruiser
In the next room, you will have to fight the Cutting Edge Fire Support Ground Effect Landcruiser miniboss. This boss can be defeated normally, but there is an easier way to deal with it. The boss will appear between two large pistons. You can use the power of the Kuuvahki to pull the pistons together, mashing them into the boss and removing chunks of its health. Continue doing this to defeat the boss and move to the next area.
11. Find a way to enter an empowered state
Once you reach outside, you will have to find a way to enter an empowered state and use it to activate the elevator nearby. Go to the southern side of the area to find a cleaning bot console. Control the cleaning bot and bring it next to the elevator, near the blue circle. This will empower you, and you can jump on the blue area nearby to go up to the main area.
12. Defeat Raskolnikov Poruchik
Finally, you will have to confront Raskolnikov Poruchik, one of the Local Legends of Nod-Krai, and defeat him in battle. This enemy would be a washed-down version of the actual local legend Raskolnikov fight, so you shouldn’t have many issues defeating it. Once you defeat it, a cutscene will start, and this quest will be completed.
