Mastering the Skill Tree in All Star Tower Defense X can turn an average roster into a powerhouse. Learn how each branch shapes your strategy, amplifies unit abilities, and decides whether your team dominates or falls short on the battlefield.
So, customize the unit’s power-ups and boost their damage outputs, range, or rate of attack to make a formidable team. Here is a detailed guide that explains how the skill tree in All Star Tower Defense X works, along with how to unlock skill trees for your units.
All Star Tower Defense X Skill Tree Explained
The skill tree in All Star Tower Defense X gives players a structured way to strengthen their characters through upgrades and perks. Each branch focuses on different aspects such as attack damage, range, cooldown reduction, and special abilities, allowing players to tailor units to their preferred strategy. Skill points are earned by leveling up or completing specific missions, which can then be spent to progress through the tree. Strategic planning is key, as certain paths open powerful combinations that can greatly enhance team performance on the battlefield.
Features of ASTDX Skill Tree
Upon accessing the skill tree either from the Grand Elder or from the unit window itself (more on this below), you will see a new screen with branches, nodes, and the unit’s tree completion progress on the top right. So here is a brief about all the buttons and their uses in this section:
- Damage: Checking this button will only allow you to unlock the nodes on the damage path of the unit, which means your unit will have more boosted damage output.
- Speed: Checking this button allows you to unlock nodes on the speed path, hence boosting the rate of attack or shorter cooldowns.
- Range: Checking this button will unlock nodes on the Range path, so boosted range of attacks.
- Fast Unlock: This way, you will use up a given number of skill orbs to unlock all nodes on a branch, ignoring the dupe nodes and hidden special moves.
- 4 Empty Cells: Here, all your special ability moves will be placed once unlocked with skill orbs.
- Locked Units: To the right of the empty cells are three locked units. These will be unlocked once you use the same unit to open a dupe node in the skill tree.
How to Unlock Nodes in ASTDX Skill Tree
Once you have a good idea of what are all the stuff on the Tree Completion section at the top right of a skill tree window, you’re ready to unlock the nodes on the tree. So, choose any one path out of Damage, Speed, or Range to work on it for your unit. However, always choose the one which will help that unit gain an extra edge in the battlefield.
Now you can select the node at the starting point and press the confirm button to unlock it by spending the skill orbs. Note that the skill orbs you earn have specific colors. Only when the color of skill orb you have matches your unit’s color, it can be used to unlock its nodes. Otherwise, you would need to obtain Pure skill orbs, turn them into the color you require, and then unlock the nodes.
ASTDX Dupe Nodes and Special Nodes
There are three extra dupe nodes for every skill tree. Here’s an important part about the trees that for every unit you do this, make sure to unlock the three extra dupe nodes before anything. This allows you to explore other nodes as well, when you’ve maxed out a certain branch.
The dupe nodes can be unlocked by using the same 5 Star or Unbound unit, whose skill tree you’re currently working on in the game. Hence, you’ll require 4 units in all to unlock each and every node on the skill tree.
At the end of a certain branch, you will be given an opportunity to unlock a special ability as well. This one’s called the special node. Here, you can get a passive ability like 10% Critical chance or 10% Element boost for your unit depending on the path you’ve chosen.
The special abilities or passives when unlocked, will then be added to the empty cells that we mentioned above in the Tree Completion section. This way, you can unlock all the dupe nodes, then get all the special abilities as well to make your unit strongest in the entire game.
How to Access the Skill Tree in All Star Tower Defense X
Access the Skill Tree once your account is at least level 18 and you have a 5-star or Unbound unit in your inventory. From the lobby, walk to the Grand Elder chamber next to the Summoning Area, stand on the green circle, press the E key, then choose the “Hidden Potential” dialogue to open the interface and pick the unit you want to upgrade. You can also skip the NPC by opening your units menu, selecting any eligible unit, and tapping the three-dot icon beside its stats to jump straight to that unit’s Skill Tree screen.ββ
In All Star Tower Defense X, you can unlock special moves and work up with the skill tree of only the 5 star or Unbound units. Moreover, you must be level 18 and above to use this mechanic in the game. Once you have such an unit and crossed the level threshold, follow the given steps to open up the skill tree for a certain unit:
- Move over to the chamber on the left of Summoning Area, that says Grand Elder.
- Head inside and stand on the green highlighted area. Now, press the βEβ key to interact with the Elder.
- From the given dialogues, select the one that says Hidden Potential.
- Now select the 5 star or the Unbound unit whose skills you wish to upgrade, and click on confirm. This will take you to the skill tree map and then you can upgrade whichever path you feel like.
Alternatively, you can also select any 5-star or an Unbound unit, click on the 3 dots icon beside its stats to access its skill tree as well.

How to Get More Skill Orbs in All Star Tower Defense X
Players farm Skill Orbs by tackling rotating challenges in the designated area, available to those at level 20 and higher. These stages reset every 30 minutes, with the primary challenge dropping colored orbs on Hard and Expert modes, while side challenges yield Pure Skill Orbs convertible to any color. Assemble a capable team to clear them consistently and stockpile orbs for skill tree progress.ββ
The best way to get more skill orbs in All Star Tower Defense is by completing the battles in the Challenges area. Although this location is recommended for players above level 20, once you are at a stage to unlock the nodes in the skill tree, you must have some powerful units to take on the challenges easily.
So, hop on the daily challenges or the ones that refresh every 30 minutes to win unique colored skill orbs. Alternatively, you can also go for the ones that reward you with the Pure Skill Orbs. These are way better, since they can be converted into skill orbs of any color and hence you can unlock the nodes of a unit of your choice. Finally, you can also consider redeeming the new All Star Tower Defense X codes to get some skill orb bags for free.
