All Pig Variants in Minecraft
Pig Variants appear across various biomes and structures, each with unique appearances and spawning rules. You’ll find Hoglins in Nether swamps, Piglins in the Nether, and regular pigs in Overworld biomes, with variants like Zombie Piglins and Striders offering distinct behavior and drops. Biome-specific spawns and recent updates add even more diversity, making it worth exploring plains, forests, deserts, and oceans to encounter the full spectrum of pig-related mobs.
Before you start your journey to find the new pig variants in your Minecraft world, remember to carry some food for the pigs. The pigs generally feed on potatoes, carrots, and beetroots. You may even use this food to tame and breed the pigs.
Furthermore, if you wish to ride this cute and friendly creature, you must have a saddle, a carrot on a stick, and a lead. Once the pig is tamed, put a saddle on its back and use the carrot on a stick to give directions to it. That said, let’s check out all the biomes where you can find the three different pigs in Minecraft.
1. Warm Pig
The Warm Pigs are rusty brown in color with dark brown ears, noses, and legs. This specific variant spawns in regions with a hot and humid climate, specifically in the following places:
- Savanna
- Savanna Plateau
- Windswept Savanna
- Jungle
- Sparse Jungle
- Bamboo Jungle
- Eroded Badlands
- Wooded Badlands
- Badlands
2. Cold Pig
The Cold pigs, as the name suggests, can be found in regions with cold and snowy climates. These pigs have a furry and bushy beige-colored texture with brown noses and brown feet. You can find these pigs in the following biomes:
- Old Growth Pine Taiga
- Old Growth Spruce Taiga
- Taiga
- Snowy Taiga
- Windswept Hills
- Windswept Gravely Hills
- Windswept Forest
3. Temperate Pig
Finally, we are left with the Temperate pigs. These are the ones that we are familiar with and have been in the game for a very long time. They come in shades of pink and spawn in all those regions where the warm and cold pigs do not spawn except the Snowy Plains, Wooden Badlands, Badlands Plateau, and the Meadows. You can find the temperate pigs in the following biomes:
- Forest
- Flower Forest
- Birch Forest
- Old Growth Birch Forest
- Dark Forest
- Swamp
Furthermore, you may find a few of these pigs inside the fenced areas of the villages. One interesting fact about the new pigs is that, although the variation of the pigs at the time of spawning depends on the region’s climate, if you try to breed two pigs, the nature of the baby pig will ultimately depend on its parents. If the two parent pigs are of two different variants, the variation of the baby pig will be randomly selected out of the two parents.
How to summon each pig variant with commands in Java Edition
In Minecraft Java Edition (version 1.21.5 and later), summon each pig variant using the /summon command with a variant NBT tag.
Command Format
Use /summon pig ~ ~ ~ {variant:”variant_name”}, where ~ ~ ~ targets your current location (adjust coordinates as needed). The variant names are strings: “cold”, “warm”, or “temperate”.
Cold Pig

Spawns the furry beige cold pig for taiga or snowy biomes.
Warm Pig

Summon pig with saddle and custom name in Java Edition
In Minecraft Java Edition (1.21.5+), summon a saddled pig with a custom name using the /summon command combined with NBT tags for the saddle and CustomName.
