Although Mojang hasn’t released any specific date for the next drop, we do have some information about what’s coming next, thanks to Minecraft snapshots. So with that, let’s take a look at when the next Minecraft update is potentially releasing, along with its features, and more!
Next Minecraft Update Release Date
Mojang has not announced an official release date for the next Minecraft update. Recent patterns from past releases, such as the 1.21 Tricky Trials update in June 2024, point to a possible launch in mid-2025. Community previews and Mojang’s developer snapshots offer clues, with many players expecting news at Minecraft Live events later this year. Keep checking official channels for confirmed details.
The internet is chock-full of rumors about the release date of the next Minecraft update. Well, we did our own digging by studying the trend of the last big Winter Drop in December 2024.
As such, the next Minecraft drop is expected to be released bylate February or early March2025. However, according to some rumors, the release could be even earlier.
The Winter Drop introduced the Pale Garden biome, Creaking mob, Resins, Eyeblossom flowers, and several new features into the game. Moreover, we were able to try out these features ahead of release from the snapshots, previews, and pre-releases.
Next Minecraft Update Name
Mojang has not officially confirmed the title of the next Minecraft update, but players have been speculating about several possibilities based on teasers and developer hints shared in community posts. The update is expected to continue expanding core gameplay features, with new biomes, creatures, and building mechanics potentially on the way. Mojang has a fun way of introducing Minecraft drops by giving them cool names. The latest Garden Awakens update was themed around the new Pale Garden biome and the Creaking. Sadly, there is still no news on what the name of the next Minecraft game drop will be. However, we have noticed a trend. As regular crafters can tell, Minecraft 1.21.60 has been foreshadowed by a plethora of animal variant releases.

The recent Minecraft snapshots introduced us to new mob variants, including pigs, cows, chickens, and new flowers, including Wildflowers and Cactus flowers, two new types of dry grasses, and even the canceled mob, Fireflies. If that continues, we might get to see more rejected ‘mob vote’ mobs in the game.
As it goes, the next Minecraft 1.21.60 update name might be something akin to Farmyard Friends or Pasture and Pens. In my opinion, I would be the most excited if Mojang added Copper Golems to the game.
Minecraft 1.21.60 Update Features
Minecraft 1.21.60 brings new pig variants to the Overworld, including warm, cold, and temperate types spawning in matching biomes. Leaves from trees such as Cherry and Pale Oak now fall with animation, while the lodestone recipe simplifies to iron ingots and chiseled stone bricks. Ravines generate more frequently, reach surfaces and ocean floors, and carve through copper veins fully.
As discussed earlier, Mojang has changed the way Minecraft releases updates. While game drops are supposed to be smaller releases, Minecraft 1.21.60 is a big surprise. That’s because it is just full of new features and upgrades to existing features.
As you read above, we have been introduced to the new variants of some of the oldest mobs in the game – pigs, cows, chickens, two new flowers – Wildflowers and Cactus flowers, new types of dry grasses, Firefly bushes, leaf litter, and falling leaves animation so far. Apart from these, I believe the next update will most likely include new environmental changes and new additions to the ambiance thereby, enhancing our gaming experience.
What features are expected in the 1.26.1 drop
Minecraft 1.26.1 is the first “drop” of 2026, teased by Mojang as the “cutest drop ever.” It focuses on visual and gameplay enhancements for baby farm animals.
Baby Mob Redesigns
Baby versions of wolves, cats, pigs, cows, chickens, ocelots, sheep, and rabbits receive complete texture overhauls. They appear chunkier, fluffier, with one-pixel eyes and updated sounds for added charm, moving beyond simple scaled-down adult models.
Villager Trade Changes
Villager trades, including those from wandering villagers, now use randomized sequences similar to loot tables. This enables datapack creators to customize offerings more dynamically.
Development Status
Previews like 26.0.27 are active, with a projected early March 2026 release following the quarterly drop schedule.
